Oruawharo
Homestead was built in 1879 by Sidney Johnston, manager (and later owner)
of Oruawharo Station - a 7,176.5ha (17,726 acre) holding in Central Hawkes
Bay, New Zealand. The original 21 room house was 60 feet by 70 feet and
had a 25 foot stud. The wing with the angled bay windows at the
left was added on in 1899. In
total the house comprises of 27 principle rooms (not including bathrooms,
hallways etc.) and is approximately 13,500 square feet in size.
The grounds are 34 acres in size including around 4 acres of lawns.

Apart
from the brick chimneys, the entire building was built out of wood.
Large blocks were placed on the corners to simulate stone quoining (
inset) helping to give Oruawharo the appearence of an Edwardian mansion.
