Pakuratahi Farm Animal Sanctuary is a safe haven for injured, neglected and abused  animals.  It is a place where farm animals are treated with respect and compassion, where they are allowed to live out their lives to a natural age, free of cages, overcrowded conditions and other forms of abuse.

Farm animals are not just stock units but individual, intelligent, social beings, yet everyday hundreds of thousands of them suffer pain, fear and neglect in factory farms, stockyards and slaughterhouses throughout the country.

These sentient beings are the most commonly exploited animals in New Zealand.  We have an ethical  obligation to refrain from inflicting pain and suffering upon them.  They deserve an environment and conditions which allow them to fulfill their natural behaviours and achieve a state of well-being.

Pakuratahi Farm Animal Sanctuary is constantly growing and has many farm animals, including:
sheep, cows, hens, roosters, ducks, geese, pigs, goats rabbits and horses.  It is also home to many other animals who are in need of love and attention.  These include: emus, donkeys, doves, guinea pigs, turtles, monkeys, cats and dogs.

Please contact us if you would like to help.  Whether volunteering at one of our working bees or by making a financial donation, your contribution will be very welcome.  All donations are used for the good of rescued and abused animals, as well as educating people about a compassionate world.  To download an information pamphlet, donation form or automatic payment form, please go to our Supporters Page  and click on the appropriate box.

* Sentient = Capable of perception and of feeling.
